The Northwest Paso Fino Owners and Breeders Association was started in August of 1977 by Judy and Tom Carr of Puyallup, Washington. They got together with about 17 people and elected officers for a Board of Directors. The regional boundaries included Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Western Montana, British Columbia and Alberta Canada.

Today some 26 years later the Northwest Paso Fino Horse Association has approximately 100 full time members, the region’s boundaries have changed to Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Alaska, Saskatchewan, Canada, British Columbia, Canada, Alberta, Canada.

The main purpose of the NWPFHA is to promote the Paso Fino breed by creating regional activity for the membership. We do this by trail rides, back country packing, hunting big game, clinics, parades, drill teams, all breed horse shows, local Paso shows, All Paso shows and horse Expositions. This diverse range of activities gives all members the opportunity to participate thru out the whole year.

The NWPFHA participates in The Greater Northwest Equine Expo in Albany Oregon in March; it draws as many as 15,000 people for 3 days. As well as other Expo’s and Clinic type of events.

The sanctioned trail rides have increased; they are a 3-day campout in the Lakes, Mountains, Desert or Pacific Ocean of the Northwest Region. There is almost always a waiting list. We have 2 day training Clinic’s through out the year with professional trainers.

Our main goal in the NORTHWEST REGION is to promote the Finest Horse Breed in the New World, the PASO FINO. We always welcome new members to our Region.
